Could Gilas make it to Rio Olympics?
Josh Fishy - 11/16/2015

Gilas Pilipinas did their best in 2015 FIBA Asia championship from which the winner would go to 2016 Rio Olympics on August 5-21, but as the song goes their best wasn't good enough.

However, it's not the end of all hope for the Filipino ballers as the door to Rio Olympics is still open. This July 5-10, 2016, Gilas 4.0, a much better, taller, and tougher version of Philippine basketball team, is going to clash with some of the world's hoops powerhouse in the Olympics qualifier.

As the challenge takes Herculean skills and brainpower to make it through a week-long basketball qualifying tournament, PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) and SBP (Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas) join forces to come up with the best of the best basketball players the country can offer.

We have the best forwards and guards in this world of basketball, but it's the height that keeps us from getting the victory that we want. We have had difficulty defending the board and getting second chance points in all our games because of this shortcoming. Good thing Gilas coach Tab Baldwin succeeds to get his hands on June Mar Fajardo (6'11'') and Greg Slaughter (7'1") two of PBA's tallest who can also be relied on scoring.

Given the country's talent on the hard court and its passion for the game, without question we can make it to Rio Olympics next year. Though the road to get there is rough and rocky, Gilas Pilipinas 4.0 is not a team to make mincemeat of.
